Word2U Messenger (BETA)

Word2U Messenger is the first personalized instant messenger! You can skin your messenger with your photos, blast messages to your friends, and send files and messages to buddies on the major IM networks.

Using our simple web tools you can design, promote and invite your community to be a part of your messaging experience. Word2U Messenger is all about YOU!

CREATING YOUR Word2U Messenger

  1. Go to the Word2U Messenger about page and select the MAKE YOUR Word2U Messenger NOW button
  2. Login
    • Use the Screen Name and Password you have for any messenger powered by MECA.
    • If you don’t have a Screen Name and Password, then click the REGISTER NOW button.
  3. Create a name for your Word2U Messenger
    • Other information about your Word2U Messenger may be requested, but it is not required. However, providing the additional information helps you improve the messaging experience for you and your friends.

That’s it, your Word2U Messenger will now be live on your personal Word2U Messenger Home Page in the Messenger Network where people can browse and download you’re messenger.

So, quick as you can, start adding some custom content to begin personalizing your Word2U Messenger! See the “MANAGING YOUR Word2U Messenger” section below for details.

MANAGING YOUR Word2U Messenger

  1. Select the “Manage My Messenger” option from your instant messenger or the MECA website.
    • From your instant messenger…
      - Select the MANAGE icon on your Buddie Remote.
      - Select MANAGE MY MESSENGER from the drop-down menu.
    • From the MECA website…
      - Locate the MANAGE MY ACCOUNT drop-down box on the top-right of every web page.
      - Select the MANAGE MY MESSENER option from the drop-down menu.
  2. Login. You will be prompted to enter your Screen Name and Password if you are not logged in already.
  3. Enter the Word2U Messenger management tool
    • The Word2U Messenger management tool will be command central for your personalized messenger. This is where you will customize the content of your messenger to make it uniquely yours by…
      - Creating skins
      - Sending Broadcasts to your community
      - Customizing your Word2U Messenger home page
      - And more…

Skins

A skin is the custom background on the message window and the primary piece of your Word2U Messenger messaging experience.

Create Skins
  1. In your Word2U Messenger management tool, click the CREATE SKINS tab.
  2. Complete the fields in the Word2U Messenger skin builder tool. Please visit the Custom Skins help page to view more detailed descriptions for each of the steps below.
    • Select the image for your skin.
    • Name your skin.
    • Create a description.
    • Decide on a few tag words.
    • Select a category.
    • Select a Buddie Remote logo.
    • Select a Buddie Remote color.
    • Click the CREATE SKIN button and you are done!
  3. Your new skin will immediately be live on your Word2U Messenger Home Page and Custom Skins Page, as well as in the Community section of the Skin Network.
Note:
The skins you make in your Word2U Messenger management tool and the custom skins you make with our general Skin Builder tool will both appear in the Community Skins section of the Skin Network. However, the only skins that will be included with your Word2U Messenger will be those skins that you make using your Word2U Messenger management tool.

Skin content may not include reference to: Tobacco or alcohol products, profanity, pornography, violence, prejudicial content, or links to any such content.  Skin content may not violate applicable laws or intellectual property rights.

Manage Your Skins
  1. In your Word2U Messenger management tool, click the Word2U Messenger tab.
  2. Locate the skin you would like to update. You can manage your skins by editing, hiding, featuring or deleting them.
    • Editing a Skin
       Click the EDIT button, make your desired changes, then click the UPDATE SKIN button.
    • Hiding a Skin
       Un-check the ‘Active’ box, then click UPDATE MY SKINS button to change the status of your skin to inactive.
    • Featuring a Skin
      You can have your skins in the Featured section, which will display before the others, on your Word2U Messenger Home Page and Custom Skins Page.
    • Deleting a Skin
      Check the ‘Delete’ box and then click UPDATE MY SKINS to permanently delete your skin.
  3. All changes to your skins will be immediate. You can view the changes on your Word2U Messenger Home Page and Custom Skins Page.
Select Options for your Skin Package

A skin package is a special set of skins selected by you that is downloaded as part of your Word2U Messenger. This allows you to deliver your custom content to your friends as soon as they sign on and begin messaging.

  1. In your Word2U Messenger management tool, click the Word2U Messenger tab.
  2. Locate the skin you would like to include in your Word2U Messenger Skin Package.
    • Include skin with Word2U Messenger download
      Check the ‘Include with Download’ box, then click UPDATE MY SKINS button. You can select up to 4 of your skins to be included with the initial download of your Word2U Messenger.
  3. Locate the skin you would like to set as your Word2U Messenger default skin.
    • Make this the default skin in Word2U Messenger download
       The default skin is the skin that will display when your friends first begin messaging on your Word2U Messenger. The default skin will continue to display until they change their skin, either by selecting to use one of the other skin package skins you included, or by going to your Custom Skins Page or browsing the Skin Network and downloading a new one.

Broadcast

Broadcasts are unlimited FREE messages you can send out to all the people who have opted-in to receive announcements from your Word2U Messenger! Broadcasts can notify friends about upcoming events, news, etc. Broadcast messages will look just like a personal IM from you to your friends.

Anyone can opt-in to receive your Broadcasts, this could be friends who signed up for your Word2U Messenger, or other members of the MECA network who saw your personal Word2U Messenger Home Page and requested to get Broadcasts from you.

  1. In your Word2U Messenger management tool, click the BROADCAST tab.
  2. First enter a brief Description of your message, then enter the Broadcast Message IM text you want to send out to all the people opted-in to receive your Broadcasts.
  3. Select one of your Word2U Messenger skins you want your message to be delivered on and then click SEND NOW .

People who are online when you send your Broadcasts will receive these messages instantly. If someone is offline, they will get your Broadcast message as soon as they login to their Word2U Messenger.

SHARING YOUR Word2U Messenger

Spread the Word

Your Word2U Messenger comes with ‘Spread the Word’ ads. ‘Spread the Word’ ads and associated code snippet make it possible for you to promote (spread the word about) your Word2U Messenger on blogs, emails, journal entries, message boards, MySpace pages, RSS feeds, web sites, etc. When someone clicks on your ad they will automatically be directed to your Word2U Messenger Home Page where they can find out about your Word2U Messenger and download it!

  1. In your Word2U Messenger management tool, click the SPREAD THE WORD tab.
  2. Find the ad(s) you would like to use.
  3. Copy and paste the HTML code associated with the ad you like onto your website, MySpace page, blog, etc.

Word2U Messenger Home Page

Your personal Word2U Messenger Home Page will exist in the MECA Messenger Network where people can browse and find your Word2U Messenger to download. Your Word2U Messenger Home Page will include:

Custom Skins Page

When someone using your Word2U Messenger chooses to get more skins they will be linked directly to your custom skins page that has your custom web header on it. This page includes all the active skins you have made for your Word2U Messenger.

SkinSharing™

Your friends can download and use as many of your skins as they want. Our exclusive SkinSharing technology allows your skin to be seen by the friends your friends are chatting with. SkinSharing allows them spread the word about your Word2U Messenger just by chatting and lets lots of people you don’t even know get a taste of your messaging experience!
